Overseas Aid and Development
Tax-deductible gifts may be
made to the SILA Overseas Aid and Development Fund for
approved overseas aid and development programs. (Note ATO
criteria exclude Bible translation and other religious
activities.)
Why?
Tax-deductible gifts are able to reduce the donor's
tax payment obligations, which can result in greater funding
being available for approved overseas aid and development
projects such as literacy programs supported by SILA.
What?
Relief and development are two different ways of
helping communities in need. Relief provides emergency
assistance, as in time of disaster or famine, when communities
are not able to help themselves.
Development assists communities to increase their capacity
to support and provide for themselves. Relief activities
should be transformed into development activities just
as soon as practicable to enable communities to take charge
of their own lives and manage their own affairs.
SILA-supported aid projects are mainstream development
activities, aiming to assist communities to develop their
educational resources, and to improve their conditions.
How?
Projects must meet the ATO’s
overseas relief and development criteria. SIL Australia
projects will primarily be in literacy and community development
work.
The SILA Overseas Aid and Development Fund holds Deductible
Gift Recipient status with the ATO therefore all gifts
to this fund are tax-deductible for which SILA will issue
tax-deductible receipts.
You may make donations to the fund for SILA to use at
its discretion or for specific projects.
Watch this site for information on specific projects as
they develop.
