Overseas Projects

Would you like to help Wycliffe in the work of Bible translation and literacy? Below are some of the projects that currently need support. If you would like to contribute to the costs of bringing the Scriptures to the needy people groups around the world use methods of giving (noting the project names(s) below) or contact: david_tilbury@wycliffe.org.

Wycliffe personnel are currently involved in more than 1,400 additional translation programmes, representing over 90 countries. More than 2,250 language groups still have Bible translation needs.

PROJECT NO. 21001

 STEP* COURSE  (*Strengthening Tokples Education in PNG)

Papua New Guinea

$23,000

The STEP course equips Papua New Guinean men and women to become effective leaders in their local areas. It gives them the tools to establish literacy programs in communities throughout their country. The participants learn how to share their skills with others so that long-term sustainable literacy and Scripture use programs can be developed in villages across PNG.

SCRIPTURE USE  in  WEST TIMOR

West Timor

$7,000

This project aims to record Scripture in five local languages in a format that can be broadcast by community radio stations interested in using locally developed materials, including Scripture-based programs. The project will also train fifty local Sunday school teachers how to produce Bible teaching materials in their own languages.

MOBA LITERACY PROGRAM

Togo-Benin, West Africa

With a focus on women and girls, this literacy project encourages local people to continue developing their literacy skills even though their lives are very busy. As the participants persevere they begin to see the fruit of their labour, developing practical skills they can use in their daily lives and building confidence in reading the recently translated Moba New Testament.

FORWARD PROJECT -Translation Association of the Philippines

Philippines

The people of the Philippines are committed to finishing the task of Bible translation in their own country and sending trained people to assist other countries in this task. The project focuses on building capacity amongst local citizens training them as translation facilitators and consultants who will then make a valuable contribution both home and abroad.

CAPACITY BUILDING for the PACIFIC

Pacific Islands

$12,000

A critical part of any Bible translation project is the involvement of well-trained translation consultants who assist the local translation team at various stages during the project. These consultants bring a high level of experience and expertise that helps to ensure that a translation is accurate, resulting in a readable final draft. This project provides funds for the academic training of prospective translation consultants so that projects across the Pacific are not excessively delayed by the current shortage of qualified consultants.

SCRIPTURE APPLICATION AND LEADERSHIP (SALT) COURSE

 Pacific Area

$36,000

The ultimate goal of the SALT project is see a love for the Scriptures develop amongst local church leaders and believers. This project aims to demonstrate how Scripture can be applied in all areas of life: prayer and worship, evangelism, acts of service, discipleship and theological reflection and study. These goals are pursued through a customised two-week training course delivered in partnership with the local church and follow-up training.

KON* BIBLE TRANSLATION PROJECT

South East Asia

This project aims to complete the translation of the New Testament and parts of the Old Testament for the Kon language group in Asia of around half a million people. It is designed to strengthen rural churches (which are growing rapidly but are spiritually weak) by providing them with God’s Word in their own language and tools to encourage regular use of the Scriptures. A small group of local Christians is working closely with expatriates to see this project bear fruit.
